The shot from the rifle made her jump. She definitely didn't like guns or handling them whatsoever. She sat down with a sigh. Well that was some action for her. She never thought about seeing that in their current condition. She dropped the stone and leaned her head back against the wall. This was crazy. She didn't want to get on these two's bad side. She would be dead for sure. She didn't know what she was going to do now. It was so late and she could not sleep here and risk getting attacked. She rubbed her temples. She could feel a headache coming on. "Great," Melody mumbled to herself. What else could go wrong right now? She was still a little scared out of her mind. She sat there trying to regain her calm and not look like she was the weak one here even though they all so definitely knew she was.

"Underwhelming." Jagd assesses, as his smile turns pitying. He watches the girl choke and die on her own blood for a moment. The dress stains red, the faint yellow darkening under the steady flow of crimson, no matter how she grasps at her throat with her one good hand. She wheezes through her severed esophagus and stares up at him and the riflewoman with terrified eyes, which dart once over to her tracksuited companion, already still in death from a similar wound.
Jagd steps over and crouches in front of her as her kicking slows. "You aren't alone." he murmurs, and meets her eyes as they begin to glaze over. "Don't be scared."
Ten seconds later she is still and Jagd blinks once, then rises to his feet, dusting off the seat of his pants and his legs from the loose, clinging dust of the area. "Good shot." he says simply to the woman who'd helped him, then ambles back to where the other girl was, sitting on his heels nearby.
"Y'alright?" he asks, wry, as the dog trots over to him and sniffs at his boots curiously. "I - well. Just take it easy, miss. You're safe. I promise you that."

Unlike the others, Apple had little to no remorse for killing. It should have been just a matter of self defense. She keeps telling herself that but for some reason that didn't seem right in her head. She was sure if she keeps telling herself this, it will one day be true. For now that side was just hidden behind her usual calm face as she turned to look at the other two people.
She did not so much as shrug about her being a good shot. It was expected of her, at least that was what experience told her. Looking from the frightened girl to the mystery man, she was just about to turn and leave. However she stopped for whatever reason and strode over to the girl. She hated the weak and the meek, they were just burdens but why was she doing this.
"Here this might help," she said as she bent over and offered her a small packet full of Tylenol. It always helped her and she had plenty left in her pack. There might be something to scavenge from what the looters had in hand.

Melody looked at Jagd and nodded her head. "Yes, I'll be alright." She let out a long breath. "Thank you. She noticed the other girl walk towards her. Melody took the packet from her. "Thank you. I have gotten headaches quite frequently since I've been here." She opened the packet and took two swallowing them without a drink. "Sorry I was no help back there even though neither of you needed it." She considered that she might need to learn a thing or two about surviving other people too. Maybe learning to fight or something. She didn't know. All she knew was that she did not want to be that helpless again. She hated being useless.

Jagd makes a dismissive gesture, a flick of one hand. He's extremely expressive - his entire body moves with his mood, his gestures crisp and sharp, and his face friendly and unguarded. "I was military before it went to pot, miss, and I still am." he says cheerfully. "I believe now what I did then - that people who don't want to fight shouldn't have to. And just the same as then, I tend to argue with people who believe otherwise."
He beams at the civilian girl - it's obvious to him, in her withdrawn body language and hesitancy - and sums it up. "So - just don't blame yourself. Life is hard. Everyone'll manage to piece it back together, soon and sure enough."
He swirls to his feet in an awkward motion that almost makes him stumble, and then whips a bow indiscriminately at some point between the two women present. "I've done introduced myself before we were interrupted, but for memory's sake I'm Jagd." he declares. "Now, I can just call both of you you, but I'm worried you might take offense, and apologizing to you would probably just make you madder since you would be confused with you as to which you you'd be interpreting me to speak to."
He takes a breath and grins. Neurons fizz and spark in his brain.
"So who are y'all?"

As Apple thought, the man was a fool. Actually she found herself not completely disagreeing with him. A professional fighter has to be dedicated to his work after all. However she believed wholeheartedly about the importance of self defense. The police won't always be there to protect someone, especially not nowadays. She won't be surprised if one of them tried to rob her.
"At the very least you should learn enough to defend yourself," she stated as a matter a factly. She didn't necessarily have to kill but she should learn to give a good knocking of two. It came to little surprise to hear that the man came from military. He did handle the situation awfully calm.
"Apple," she answered plainly. There was no need for them to know her real name. Besides this was the first time she had talked to another person in months. She had lived in solitude even before the disaster.

Melody nodded. "Yeah but I have to stop being such weakling if I'm going to survive the times now. I just didn't realize that until just now. Foolish on my part." She shook her head at herself. No need for negative thoughts now. It wasn't going to help anything. Melody stood up and laughed. "Nice to meet you Jagd. My name is Melody." It felt good to laugh. It relieved some of the tension that she had. She rolled her shoulders and moved her neck around in small circles. She had become stiff in her fear and panic. It felt good to stretch. Her head already started feeling better. She leaned herself back against the wall placing one foot over the other and relaxing.

Jagd beams at both of them, his invariably infectious and positive attitude absolutely inundating the area. "Fantastic. Swell to meet the both of you here." He parks his hands on his hips and begins swaying from side to side gently, an unconscious expression of unfettered and explosive energy. "I tend to know everyone in the area, but y'all are new. I'm guessing you, Miss Melody, have been running for a long while, and that you, Miss Apple, have been pretty well bunkered down in the State building pretty much ever since this whole thing started, on account of you being so defensive of it."
He tilts his head. "That sound about right?"
The dog pokes Jagd in the thigh with a cold, wet nose, making him jerk and reach down to scratch lifted ears. "Oh, and before I forget, this is Magnus! He's the best fucking dog in the world. Pardon my French."

Apple wasn't sure if she should tell him the truth but than again for the moment she didn't see why not. It was best to be outwards about it, she was never one to lie. If it ever became a problem, she was fine with severing the ties at any moment.
"No, I only come into the city when I need supplies and I only move at night," she stated plainly, her delicate features as plain and expressionless as ever. Then she finally remembered her guitar that had been left out. In a sudden frenzy and rush, she let out a sigh of relief to find that it was unharmed. Her features softened extremely and she couldn't let out a small smile out of relief.

Melody smiled and looked at the dog. "It's nice to meet you too Magnus." She laughed at what Jagd had said about his dog. Melody looked up at Jagd. "Yes, I'm not from around here. I have not been in New York long." She thought back to her journey here. It was a long and rough one. Being all the way from Florida it was quite a trip up here especially all alone. But she wasn't going to worry about that now. She was here and she had found survivors. That was her goal. She was doing well considering. It could have been a lot worse.

Jagd follows after Apple absently, dirt crunching beneath his boots with each step. "Logical." he comments with a nod. "The walk'd be a fine bit of daily exercise - or nightly, I suppose - and I doubt you'd have much trouble persuading the looters to buzz off. That'd be . . . hey, is that a guitar?"
He peers past Apple at the instrument, smiling as he saw it. "Hey, nice instrument. Do you play anything on it? Seven Bridges Road? Eagles are the best, no lie."
Behind him, Magnus trots back over to Melody's side and thumps his head against her leg. With surprisingly mobile features, he gives her a dull sort of pleading glance and flicks an ear.
"You might want to find a place to hole up soon, Melody." Jagd calls, noticing his dog's movement. "There's a survivor complex not far from here. I'll lead you there in just a bit, alright?"

Ariela immediately solidified her expression when she realized the man had approached. Her smile vanished as quickly as it appeared. She was thankful for her hood being up for the extra defense. She rarely showed anybody her expression outside the emotionless one. When the man asked about her playing, she only glanced down at the guitar and nodded.
"Yes, I know them and that song," she answered after a pause but without looking at the man. She did not want to head to a survivor complex but she didn't have much options now. It was going to take some time to reach her next location, this encounter wasted too much time. Instead she looked up at the man for what he wanted to do.

Melody bends down and scratches Magnus on the head for a few minutes. She then stood straight and took a few steps rolling her left ankle in small circles in the process. It hurt a bit from being so stiff. Her ankle hadn't been the same since she broke it almost two years ago. Melody nodded at Jagd. "Yeah that would be a good idea. Thank you." She stood there waiting on him. Her thoughts distracted her from the other two's conversation. What was she going to do now? She had no choice but to rest at this survivor complex. Maybe there would be more people there. As soon as she got some sleep she was going to leave this part of the city. She couldn't risk staying over here. She had to find a better place to find supplies without being attacked by crazy looters.

Jagd rocks on the balls of his feet. "Nearest one is in the combined St. Patrick's Cathedral slash Rockefeller Center area. They set up a ton of police barricades there and sort of blocked that street off for security. It's about five blocks north of here, not a huge trip at all. I'll have you there in no time, Melody."
He turns to Apple and snaps a bow, smiling wryly. "I'm going to go ahead and take her on up to the settlement. Care to walk along? I mean, beyond my obvious and shining powers as a conversationalist, you could look the place over, get the latest news on where the big looter bands are, do a bit of bartering. All the fun stuff."
He spins and points vaguely northeast, down the ruined lane of Fifth Avenue, a rapid motion that sets him to wobbling briefly. "Thataways! Those boarding the vehicle, please do so now."
Jagd laces his fingers behind his head and calls out as he starts walking, "So what did you do before all this went down, miss Melody? I mean, pretty obvious miss Apple was military, so that's an easy one to guess."
